Alice Wallace

Phoenicia United Methodist Church, 29 Church St., Phoenicia, NY 12464

It was after ALICE WALLACE’s return to her birth state of California twelve years ago that she fully embraced her calling as a singer-songwriter. She began focusing on performing and touring, both solo and with a band, and on writing songs both on her own and with distinguished collaborators. Singer-songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard says her “stunning” songcraft has that “Steve McQueen ‘Cincinnati Kid’ cool.” Others agree. Wallace won the 2017 Female Vocalist of the Year at the California Country Awards and the previous year’s Best Country/Americana Artist at the L.A. Music Critic Awards. She was recently acclaimed by the Los Angeles Daily News and Pollstar for her “dead-on lovely version” of Ronstadt’s “Long Long Time.”

Wallace uses an array of vocal styles to bring her songs to life: a dusky alto on “The Lonely Talking,” gospel-tinged belting on “When She Cries,” and a soaring high range on “Santa Ana Wind.” “The Blue” describes Wallace’s decision to “go for the thing I love the most.” Wallace’s fourth album marks her debut on the brand-new Rebelle Road label, an imprint founded by a trio of women dedicated both to strengthening the California Country music community and to expanding visibility for female artists in the Americana/roots genre. Since 2013, Wallace typically performs some 200 dates a year.
